Juneau Ski Club - Alaska Marine Lines Series: This weekend of skiing at Eaglecrest Ski Area opens (weather permitting) with Super-G training for J1-J2 skiers and two unscored races for J3-J4 races on Thursday, Jan. 30; two scored Super-G races for J1-J2-Masters skiers on Friday, Jan. 31; one scored giant slalom race for J4-M skiers on Saturday, Feb. 1; one scored slalom race for J3-M skiers on Sunday, Feb. 2; one unscored slalom race for J4 skiers on Sunday, Feb. 2; and a weather day for makeup races on Monday, Feb. 3. This is one of the two Alaska Division Junior Olympic qualifying events for the J1-J4 age groups. Juneau-Douglas High School wrestling - Region V-Class 4A Championships: The Crimson Bears host the Sitka Wolves and Ketchikan Kings at the JDHS main gym. The first round starts at 10 a.m., championship semifinals are at noon, consolation finals are at 5 p.m. and the championship finals take place at 7 p.m. Tournament passes are $8 for adults and $5 for students. The top two wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the Class 4A state tournament on Feb. 7-8 in Ketchikan, the first state tournament of any sort to take place in Southeast Alaska since 1991.

Juneau-Douglas High School girls basketball - Homecoming games: The Crimson Bears host the Ketchikan Kings for a pair of Region V-Class 4A games at 6 p.m. each night at the JDHS main gym. The Juneau and Ketchikan girls JV teams play at 2 p.m. each day.

Raincountry Flyfishers classes - The info about the "Fly Fishing 101: Learn to fly fish" classes listed in the Community Schools newsletter was incorrect. The three-day course will take place from 7-9 p.m. on Jan. 22, 27 and 29 at the Floyd Dryden Middle School library. Gastineau Channel Little League online registration - Online registration will be open through Feb. 10 for early registration, through March 10 for regular registration and late registration after that at the Gastineau Channel Little League's Web site, http://www.juneau.com/littleleague/. The secure Web site went live this month and parents can now use it to pay for their children's registration by credit card. Regular registration will take place at the Nugget Mall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays during the weekends of Feb. 15-16, 22-23 and March 1-2. The GCLL is open to baseball and softball players ages 6-18. HoopTime youth basketball - Southeast Shootout: The inaugural Southeast Shootout takes place on Feb. 14-16 at several gyms around town. The finals on Sunday will be at the Juneau-Douglas High School main gym. Brackets are available for fifth- through eighth-graders for boys and girls, with three divisions for each gender. Juneau Tornados youth wrestling club registration - Meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, and on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Gottschalks end of the Mendenhall Mall. The club is open to young athletes ages 5-18 interested in learning wrestling skills (male and female wrestlers welcomed). Water Safety Instructor (WSI) course organizational meeting - Meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool. This course is required for anyone wanting to teach swimming lessons. To participate, swimmers must be at least 17 years old and able to swim 50 yards each of front crawlstroke (freestyle in competitive swimming), back crawlstroke (backstroke), sidestroke, breaststroke and elementary backstroke, and 10 yards of butterfly. 4-H Nordic Ski Club - The fifth year of this club for youth and adult skiers will meet every Sunday afternoon through March 16 at various locations TBA with club leaders Odin Brudie and Frankie Pillifant ($6 membership fee). The club has a limited number of pairs of classic and skating ski sets for rent for $20 for the entire winter season. Club leaders will help parents size skis for their children. The club only rents youth skis, adults must provide their own. If families couldn't attend the Dec. 14 registration meeting, they should call the 4-H office and enroll by phone.
