Bonnie Merkouris, left, and Hanna Johnson await the start of the seventh annual Alaska Ski for Women on Sunday at Kincaid Park in Anchorage. The two said they were dressed as American fairies. The day's ski race events were a fund-raiser for the Abused Women Aid in Crisis shelter in Anchorage. A record 1,600 skiers participated and raised approximately $80,000 for the shelter, according to Bobbi Olson, AWAIC director of development.
