JUNEAU - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is sponsoring a Basic Hunter Education Course from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 9 at the Juneau Hunter Education Facility, 5670 Montana Creek Road.
The course includes instruction on firearms safety and handling, wildlife conservation and management, game laws and regulations, and hunter ethics and responsibilities. A hunter education course is a new requirement for anyone to hunt on the Mendenhall Wetlands. Successful graduates will be awarded a lifetime hunter education certification recognized throughout North America.
Cost for independent study materials is $10. The study workbook must be completed prior to the start of the course and all materials brought to the class.
To register for the course, students are required to purchase a packet of study materials at the JHEF or the Douglas office of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Room 201. For more information, call 586-4101.
