2 freezing deaths on Yukon-Kuskokwim delta

ANCHORAGE — Alaska State Troopers say winter cold and winds are to blame for two exposure deaths in the Yukon-Kuskokwim delta.

The Anchorage Daily News reports the body of 70-year-old Charlie L. George was found Saturday near the high school in the village of St. Mary’s, about 100 miles north of Bethel. Troopers said alcohol also appeared to play a role in the death.

Troopers say a 14-year-old boy apparently lost his way on a quarter-mile walk home from a friend’s house Sunday in Kipnuk, about 100 miles southwest of Bethel.

More than 20 villagers searched, but the body of Brandon Anaver wasn’t found until Monday. It was about 1 1/2 miles from the village.
