Letter: Juneau Crime Line in need of cash

Posted: Sunday, January 28, 2001

Juneau Crime Line is a nonprofit organization formed more than 18 years ago to provide a means for Juneau citizens to offer anonymous tips on criminal acts. The Juneau Crime Line Board consists of a cross-section of our population of all ages and all walks of life.

One of the group's most important programs is that of the DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) reward. Each time a tip is received which results in a drunk driver being arrested for a DWI, the tipster is eligible for a $100 reward. Of the $3,500 total the group paid in 1999, about $2000 was a result of the DWI reward program.

The Juneau Crime Line program has saved Juneau over and over in the protection of life and property by helping remove these drunk drivers and other criminals from the streets of Juneau. An average of three DWI rewards are given each month in the summer.

The group is solely dependent upon donations and has no funding source other than the citizens of Juneau.

The group regularly updates the community on significant crimes in the Juneau Empire and the Capital City Weekly, thanks to the donation of space by each publisher.

Juneau Crime Line is dangerously short of funds and seeks new contributions in order to continue this service to the community. Donations may be made to Juneau Crime Line, Inc., P.O. Box 20141, Juneau, AK 99802. For further information please call Arlene Crumrine at 780-6075 (home), or 789-0047 (work), or e-mail me at arlenec@alaska.com.
