Kensington blanches Tier A Green

Six players score in 7-0 blanking at Treadwell Arena

Albert Svensson's pair of goals led a balanced offensive attack for Kensington, as six different players found the net in a rout of Green in Juneau Adult Hockey Association's men's Tier A action at Treadwell Arena Sunday.

Ian Leary and Dennis Weston kicked off the scoring for Kensington, with an unassisted goal apiece early in the first period. Max Hensley then pushed the lead to 3-0 off a helper from Kellen Kraft to cap the opening stanza.

Kensington doubled their lead in the second period, beginning with Randy Host's score off an assist from Michael Svensson. Host then provided the helpers for both of Albert Svensson's goals in the stanza's final 3:19.

Jim DeLaBruere capped the win with only score of the third, getting assists from both Michael Svensson and Albert Svensson.

Goalie Chip Verrelli was perfect in the net for Kensington on 16 shot attempts. Green's Colin Osterhout had 16 saves of his own on the other end, but surrendered the defeat.


Grey 2, Green 1

Grey's Tricia Maroney picked up an assist to break a scoreless tie after the first period and picked up the winning goal with just 1:18 remaining in the game, pushing her team past Green.

Grey's Michelle Morris opened the scoring for both teams midway through the second stanza, finding net off assists from Maroney and Pam Johansen.

Benthe Mertl finally knotted the score for Green late in the third, picking up the unassisted netter. Maroney's goal provided the late lift for Grey, though, coming off a helper from Sharon Buis.

Les Schwab 2, Alaska Dames 0

Les Schwab outshot Alaska Dames 33-13, and used a perfect effort from goalie Jess Parks to pick up the shutout win.

Les Schwab's Marsha Squires opened up the game's scoring near the end of the first period, off an assist from Kristina Weltzin. Tami Watts closed out the victory early in the second, getting her helper from teammate Sharon Cameron.

Jodie Pessolano picked up 31 saves in the net for Alaska Dames, but was unable to pick up the offensive help she needed.


Maroon 2, Black 1

Jeffery Johns picked up the assist from Val Blue on the winning goal early in the third period, lifting Maroon to the victory in a back-and-forth battle.

Maroon's Kevin Ellsworth opened up the scoring in the opening stanza of a defensive battle that saw just one total goal in each period. His goal was unassisted.

Mike Wright responded for Black, knotting the score midway through the second. Johns' goal followed in the third to give Maroon the win.


Maroon 2, Green 1

Andy Mills and Matt Dubois picked up unassisted goals in the first and second periods, respectively, as Maroon held off a late Green charge for the win.

Maroon outshot Green 18-10, but surrendered a goal early in the third to Annie Smith. Assists went to Mark Baker and Alpheus Bullard on the score. Green was unable to pull even the rest of the way.

Orange 2, Grey 2

Orange's Bryan Zepp scored the only goal of the third period, off an assist from Gary Zepp, helping his team salvage a tie against Grey after blowing an early lead.

Orange's Lawrence Trujillo kicked off the scoring just a minute into the game, getting the helper from Rob Davidson to give Orange the early lead.

Grey stormed back midway through the first, however, on Atlin Daugherty's goal that was assisted by Chad Poppe. Grey then took the lead with the only goal of the second stanza, an unassisted slapper from Jon Barton. Bryan Zepp's goal followed in the third.
