FAIRBANKS - Eielson Air Force Base officials have advised base residents not to drink the water after unsafe amounts of a water treatment chemical accidentally were released into the water supply.
Base officials say a broken valve caused too much potassium permanganate to be released at the base water facility. Base engineers are flushing the water system and medical personnel are testing the water. Water with too much of the chemical will have a pink tint.
Officials expect the water system will soon return to normal, possibly by late Wednesday.
