Juneau Tennis Association created

The Juneau Tennis Association was created this month to promote tennis in Juneau, especially for youth.

The JTA is a non-profit organization that will help send Juneau tennis players to tournaments in Alaska, the Pacific Northwest and throughout the United States, plus it will help provide scholarships for local players wanting to pursue tennis in college. The JTA will also provide some free citywide tennis opportunities for kids, and will provide tennis equipment for young players who can't afford it.

The JTA will host its first tournament, the Cabin Fever Doubles tennis tourney, on Feb. 23-25 at the Juneau Racquet Club's Valley location. This tournament is primarily a youth fund-raiser to help offset travel and lodging costs for the Youth (age 10-18) U.S. Tennis Association-sponsored qualifying tournament in late-March in Anchorage.

For information on upcoming events and how to help sponsor the Juneau Tennis Association, contact the Juneau Racquet Club at 789-2181.
