After nearly three years, the streak is over.
The Chugiak Mustangs girls basketball team defeated the East Anchorage Thunderbirds on Tuesday, 64-48, snapping East's 63-game in-state winning streak.
Erica Putnam's 18 points led the way for the Mustangs (8-1), while Ashley Mickens and Aiesha Ailey-Brown each scored 16 points for the T-Birds (7-5).
Chugiak was the last Alaska team to beat East before the streak, according to the Anchorage Daily News. The Mustangs defeated the T-Birds 65-60 on March 1, 2000.
The Juneau-Douglas High School girls basketball team played East last weekend and led the game for most of the first three quarters, before East pulled away in the fourth for a 64-56 victory. The Crimson Bears also played a close game with Chugiak last week, losing 51-49 on Wednesday.
