Moose hunting season extended

JUNEAU - The village of Emmonak will receive an extension on moose hunting season.

The Alaska Department of Fish & Game said it will use its emergency authority to reopen moose hunting on the Lower Yukon River.

Beset by high fuel costs, extreme wintertime temperatures and a poor fishing season, this village was finding it difficult to pay for food and fuel.

The Alaska Board of Game told the state agency it had the authority to extend the current season, which ended a week ago.

The extension allows hunters to take an antlered bull or calf through the end of February.

The bag limit would be the same as the fall and winter seasons.
