Kazama named to Housing Advisory Council: Juneau resident Blake Kazama, executive director of Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority, has been named to the Affordable Housing Advisory Council of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle. Kazama will represent the state of Alaska on the council for a three-year term.
The Federal Home Bank of Seattle funds local banks that make home loans to residents of Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Guam and American Samoa. In 2000, the bank distributed more than $26 billion in home loans.
Kazama said he has several goals he hopes to accomplish during his tenure: "As Alaska's representative, I want to see what the Home Loan Bank can do to help economic development in Alaska's rural communities. We need help building up flagging local economies so people can have jobs and, in turn, become homeowners."
Kazama is also president of the Association of Alaska Housing Authorities, an organization of 16 nonprofit members.
