Carpenter vs. Leykis

Posted: Wednesday, January 30, 2002

What I see is a perfect example of what is infecting the legal system of America. A woman who chose to initiate a derogatory campaign against a radio personality, being given a public forum to pursue a money settlement. Why would a reputable attorney even take a case like this? How is anyone to know Ms. Carpenter did not have an accomplice call in and give out her number-fax etc., so she could manufacture this ridiculous concoction of paranoia. This whole scenario smells to no end. I am sure the courts in Alaska like all other communities, have much more important and deserving issues to be heard, and justice given to. I am a 61-year-old grandfather, with three grown children, who are long married, with children of their own. I see the Tom Leykis show as a comic afternoon relief. Long live free speech.
