Sitka festival musicians visit Juneau

Touring artists from the Sitka Summer Music Festival will make a stop in Juneau to play a Winter Classics concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Northern Light United Church.

Featured artists include violinist Paul Rosenthal, cellist Peter Rejto, pianist Doris Stevenson and violist Nicole Divall.

Rosenthal, a nationally recognized musician, is the founder of the Sitka Summer Music Festival, a series of classical concerts held in the Southeast city since 1972.

Rejto is a professor of music at Oberlin College who studied under his father, Hungarian cellist Gabor Rejto. Divall, Rejto's wife, has played with symphonies in Detroit and Sydney, Australia.

Stevenson, former chairwoman of the piano department at ldyllwild and California School of Music Arts, is an artist in residence at Williams College in Massachusetts.

The musicians will play "Piano Quartet in A Major" by Joaquin Turina, "Cello Sonata in D Minor" by Dimitri Shostakovich, "Lachrymae For Viola and Piano" by Benjamin Britten and "Piano Trio in E-Flat Major" by Ludwig van Beethoven.

After their Juneau concert the musicians will play in Anchorage and several Kenai Peninsula communities.

Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for students and seniors and are available at Hearthside Books.
