The Juneau Ranger District and the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center are working together to produce a "Forest Explorers" newsletter but need submissions - such as poems, stories, drawings or photographs with a natural history theme - from children 18 years old and younger to fill the pages.
Submissions need not be about the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area or the Tongass National Forest, although those topics are ideal. Also welcome are any photos or stories about trips to visit public lands, forests, grasslands, monuments or wilderness areas. The key is submissions must be about nature or exploring public lands.
Submissions may be brought into the visitors center during open hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday through Sunday, or e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. They may also be brought to the Juneau Ranger District from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Photos of people require a release form, which are available by contacting the visitor center.
The deadline for submissions for the first newsletter is Feb. 17. For more information, call the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center at 789-6636.
