STUDENT ARTIST: Jeremiah Stephens

School: Mendenhall River Community School

Teacher. Adam Berkey says: I selected Jeremiah because he is an aspiring artist that deserves exposure. He puts a great deal of time into working on his art (cartooning) and he has reaped the benefits of practice.

Jeremiah, like most of my students, is extremely well-rounded. Jeremiah is funny, hard-working, careful in his studies, and always gives 110% I can't ask for more.

I once challenged my kids to find one million of something in their home and Jeremiah's family helped him count rice for four hours!

Jeremiah says: Art really inspired me to start drawing. What encouraged me was these teachers: Ms. Barry, Ms. Sorenson, and Mr. Berkey.

I've been practicing since I was 7 years old.

(All in the family: My mom wants my uncle in the Phillipines to be an artist. He is a really good one, too. I think he's the one who I got my gift to draw from.

Favorite artist: I don't have any favorite artist. I never knew any artists. I am my own favorite artist.

Future plans: To be an artist. I don't want to be famous. I'm really not into getting all rich. I only want the people in the Phillipines to have enough money to buy food.

Other activities I'm in soccer club going to Anchorage and White Horse. I used to swim, too, in the Glacier Swim Club.

You should know: I have two pigs and 13 chickens in the Phillipines. I'm sometimes funny. Sometimes I'm quiet. I work every day. My mom has day care. My dad is in the Alaska Marine Highway.
