JUNEAU - Poor weather conditions continue to delay repairs to powerlines downed by a Jan. 12 avalanche.
Utility officials say work crews are as close as two days to completing the work and restoring 15,000 Juneau customers to hydroelectric generated power.
When this happens, Alaska Electric, Light & Power Co. will be able to switch from the more expensive diesel powered generation.
But unfavorable weather and the threat of an avalanche to the area about 40 miles southeast of downtown Juneau are keeping crews from putting on the final touches to repairs.
The avalanche struck two weeks ago and knocked down the same tower taken out in an avalanche last April.
Work crews decided to bypass that avalanche prone tower.
