Former airman sentenced for fraud

ANCHORAGE — A 40-year-old former airman who defrauded the Air Force and the state Labor Department has been sentenced to five years probation and 250 hours of community service.

Bruce Adam Decker of Palmer also was ordered to pay $28,661 in restitution to the Air Force. He already has reimbursed the state $3,737 for collecting improper unemployment benefits.

Decker in September pleaded guilty to making false statements and wire fraud.

Federal prosecutors say Decker was discharged from the military and told the Air Force he had in January 2009 completed a “do-it-yourself” move from Alaska to Missouri. Instead, he had loaded cement bags into a moving truck, had it weighed, and then returned the bags to a store.

He also claimed family members had made a one-way final journey to Missouri.
