Aspen Hotels has contributed $24,000 to the American Red Cross as part of its "Room by Room" campaign that it launched in August.
The campaign designated a percentage of the money it received for rented rooms in September through December of 2002 as a donation to the American Red Cross.
In addition to the monetary donation, Aspen Hotels has committed to support victims of disaster throughout the state. The hotel chain has opened its five Alaska hotels for the Red Cross temporarily to house victims of disaster.
"The American Red Cross of Alaska is very thankful for Aspen Hotels' ongoing support of our mission of providing comfort and hope to Alaskans affected by a disaster, and teaching Alaskans how to live safer, healthier lives," said Jan Mildenhall, CEO of the American Red Cross of Alaska.
"We are only able to provide these valuable services through the generous support of our community and business partners, such as Aspen Hotels of Alaska," she said.
Aspen Hotels was inspired to donate to the Red Cross after an April 2002 fire that razed its Anchorage hotel.
"We realized that we had a debt to repay and wanted to begin by giving financially and through hotel assistance to the American Red Cross," said Carol Fraser, vice president of Aspen Hotels.
