If ever there was a time to nominate a governor, I would like to express a nomination for Sen. Kim Elton. In all the years that he has worked with the state of Alaska and been a voice of the people, I feel he is more than qualified to run our state.
I have worked with Sen. Elton at Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute a few years ago when he was one of the committee members and just after he was the director of ASMI. I can honestly say he has been a very honest and upfront individual - an individual Alaska truly needs.
Point in case, the recent letter that Sen. Elton wrote clarifying his statements made regarding a recent trip that cost Alaska $7,338 when certain passengers could have flown 97 different flights out of Vegas to Dallas. I must say, if ever there was someone looking out for Alaska and where money is spent frivolously, Sen. Elton is the man.
I have often pondered this recent administration with Gov. Murkowski. First, cutting funds for the longevity bonus and now coming up with money for a private jet. Not only that, able to openly admit blowing $7,338 because of his apparent need to get to Dallas. I am sure there are countless other expenditures that were "necessary" for the governor that the Alaskan people have no clue about. Just the way the government wants it. Same theory of "Don't Ask, Don't tell" in the military.
Either Gov. Murkowski needs to have smarter shoppers on his staff or he needs to step down from office and let a real thrifty shopper like Sen. Elton run the show.
