The Fifth Annual Bill Kozlowski Memorial Groundhog Day Festival will be held from 9:30 p.m. to closing on Friday, Feb. 1, at the Alaskan Hotel & Bar.
The newly formed Blazer Club presents an evening of delightful entertainment celebrating the auspicious moment when Juneau will know how much longer it will have to suffer in the dark. Blazer jackets are encouraged, but not necessary - although there will be a blazer and tie competition.
The night also will include a limbo contest, a reading of "Gertie Groundhog," a competition for the honor of being crowned king and queen groundhog, a shadow puppet theater and a helium balloon song contest.
And for Mardi Gras and Super Bowl celebrations on Saturday, Feb. 2, and Sunday, Feb. 3, the Alaskan Hotel & Bar will feature the return of Haines' Pastor Lunchmeat & the Pimentoes with vocals by Olive Loaf, aka Collette Costa. It has been nearly five years since this Dixieland-swing-polka-bop band has performed in Juneau, having taken a hiatus after the death of clarinetist Guy Hoffman. The band reunites this weekend only, from 9:30 p.m. to closing.
