Specialist to speak on treatment strategies for children who stutter

JUNEAU - Dr. J. Scott Yaruss, associate professor and director of the master's degree program in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh, will present a two-day seminar, titled "Practical Treatment Strategies for Preschool and School-Age Children Who Stutter," from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, and from 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Feb. 12, at Thunder Mountain High School.

Cost is $150 for both days. Parents of children who stutter are especially encouraged to attend. Private consultations also are available. For more information or register, call Shawn Cohen at 463-3259.

Co-author of the "Source for Stuttering: Ages 7-18 and the Overall Assessment of the Speaker's Assessment of Stuttering," Yaruss also is associate director of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and co-director of the Stuttering Center of Western Pennsylvania.
