At the Bird Treatment and Learning Center in Anchorage, volunteer Cindy Palmatier holds the head of a bald eagle in January while her husband, Todd Palmatier, feeds it a formula that includes baby food and meat. Palmatier operated on the eagle to remove five lead pellets from its lower stomach. The bird was found in an industrial area on the Kenai Peninsula. After an X-ray, it was determined that the eagle had probably fed on wildlife which had been hit with lead shot. The eagle has started to recover and is holding down food.
