Pipe-freeze warning in effect after city's thawing unit breaks

Posted: Friday, February 01, 2008

JUNEAU - The city's thawing unit is not working, so the city temporarily can't thaw frozen service lines.

City officials recommend homeowners take preventative measures to prevent water service lines from freezing during the frigid weather.

Frozen water service lines can be prevented by leaving the water running a trickle to keep the water circulating through the pipes, closing foundation vents and insulating or heating tape pipes.

For questions, please call the Water Utility Office during regular business hours at 780-6808. For emergencies, call 789-8844.
