Nellie Metcalfe scored 12 points and Veronica Lietz added six as the Juneau-Douglas High School junior varsity girls basketball team beat Klawock 49-20 on Tuesday at the JDHS main gym.
In the late game, Billy Sarandria scored 16 points - including three 3-pointers - as the Juneau boys basketball C team beat Klawock 87-28.
The teams will play again this afternoon, with the girls game at 4 p.m. and the boys at 6 p.m. in the JDHS main gym.
Class 2A Klawock is in town for a few days on a layover as it travels from last weekend's games in Yakutat to next weekend's games in Skagway.
Ashliegh Wilwert and Hannah Buck added five points apiece for the Juneau JV girls in their victory. Kaleigh Ryno scored 14 points and Marcie Grant added six for Klawock (2-6 overall, 2-4 Southeast Conference-Class 2A).
In the boys game, Scott Bergman scored 11 points and Zach Heppner added nine for Juneau, which had a deep bench and saw 17 players score in the game. Andrew Flansaas and Sam Clark scored eight points apiece for the Crimson Bears.
Rock Mackinnon scored nine points and Devin Nelson added six for Klawock (0-8 overall, 0-6 SE).
The Juneau boys varsity will host Sitka on Friday and Saturday for a pair of conference games, while the Juneau girls travel to Sitka for a pair of games against the Wolves.
