'Starlight Serenade' at Twisted Fish

JUNEAU - Opera to GO! will host a romantic benefit dinner, "The Starlight Serenade," from 8-12 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at the Twisted Fish.

The evening is a fundraiser for the company's upcoming production of "Don Giovanni," opening March 17 at the Juneau-Douglas High School auditorium and starring Aaron Elmore.

The night will include light opera, some musical theater, jazz by the Robert Cohen trio and a silent auction. The rock band Incyte will play at the end of the evening. Hors d'oeuvres and dessert will be provided.

"It's a public service to give people in Juneau a chance to dress up," said Opera to GO! director Joyce Parry Moore.

Tickets are $40, or $75 for two, and available at Hearthside Books, Shoefly and North Star Designer Outlet. Premium tables for six are also available. Call 321-0885 for more information.

Spaghetti benefit for Carnegie Hall trip

JUNEAU - "Hot Spaghetti - Cool Jazz," a dinner, dessert auction and evening of music, will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, in the Juneau-Douglas High School commons. Musical entertainment includes the JDHS jazz band and the Floyd Dryden Middle School jazz band.

Proceeds will help the JDHS wind ensemble on its upcoming March trip to the Carnegie Hall Wind Band Festival in New York.

Advance tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, $30 for families and available at Hearthside Books. Tables for six can be reserved by e-mailing Lisa Golisek at jnank@gci.net.

Caldwell chosen to deliver grant seminar

JUNEAU -Comedian Eric Caldwell has been chosen to lead, "Grant Research for the Nonprofit Theater Group," a seminar at this month's Seattle Festival of Improvisational Theater.

Caldwell's seminar will cover the art of locating prospective funding sources through free and fee-based resources, as well as how a nonprofit theater should prepare before raising funds. The seminar is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18.

Perseverance to hold more 'Master' auditions

JUNEAU - Perseverance Theatre will hold a second round of auditions for its upcoming second stage production of Terrance McNally's "Master Class," directed by Sarah Denhardt and starting Joyce Parry Moore as Maria Callas.

The theater is searching for two sopranos and one tenor.

Auditions are from 6:30-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, with 10-minute slots avaiable. Prepare one song, preferably classical. Piano accompaniment will be provided.

Rehearsals begin in March 2006, with performances in late April and early May.

Groundhog party set for Alaskan

JUNEAU -Collette Costa will emcee the Alaskan Hotel and Bar's annual Groundhog Day's celebration during this Thursday's open mike, 9 p.m.-close Thursday, Feb. 2.

The evening will include music, games, prizes and a variety of entertainment. Admission is free, but 21 and over.
