Like many capital city residents, I've enjoyed the new changes in Egan Drive near Sunny Point. But one thing distresses me greatly.
After spending millions of dollars on the project, why do we have such an unimaginative name for the enhanced turn-off as the "Glacier Highway Access Road?" If I may be so bold, may I suggest some possibilities?
Since he's had an exemplary career in public service as mayor, attorney general and folk dancer, how about re-naming it the Botelho By-Pass? Or maybe we should name it geographically and call it the Lemon Creek Loop or the Sunny Point Extension.
Perhaps best yet, how about honoring our lone congressman and designating it as the Don Young Expressway? Admittedly, it's not that long, but let's not quibble about small stuff; Ted already has lots of things named after him and Lisa will be around long enough for something else to be named after her.
I hope we as a community can take action on this vital public matter before the GHAR becomes part of our community lexicon.
