``The Odyssey of Captain Healy,'' Reception tonight, Alaska State Museum. 5:30 p.m. a documentary about the life of African American cutter Capt. Healy, the ``Ruler of the Arctic Sea,'' will be shown. Refreshments at 6:30 p.m., then at 7 a presentation by National Humanities Forum speaker George Harper. Free.

Alaska Gold Rush Women, 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Juneau-Douglas City Museum, Alaska Humanities forum guest presenter Fairbanks author Jane Haigh will do a performance on gold rush women, in costume and in character. Free.

Author Nick Jans reads from his works ``Alaska'' and ``Trails of the Unseen'', 7:30-9:30 p.m., Friday, Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Part of the center's Fireside Program Series. Free.

``Alaska Gold: Life in the New Frontier,'' exhibit of photographs, letters and artifacts of Wilfred and Edmund McDaniel, California brothers who joined the 1898 Nome Gold Rush. Alaska State Museum. Through April 22.
