Klawock girls, Juneau boys C team post wins
Kaleigh Ryno scored 14 points and Sharon Webb added 13 as the Klawock High School girls basketball team edged the Juneau-Douglas junior varsity 34-30 on Wednesday at the JDHS main gym.
In Wednesday's late game, Zach Heppner scored 14 points and Dom Brinson chipped in 10 as the Juneau boys C team beat Klawock 64-23.
The Class 2A Chieftains were in Juneau on a layover between trips to play in Yakutat and Skagway, and used the time to squeeze in a pair of games against Class 4A Juneau.
The Klawock girls (3-5 overall) were trounced by the Juneau JV in Tuesday's opener, but rebounded to pull out a narrow win on Wednesday for a split of the series. The Chieftains led 15-11 at halftime and 27-26 after three quarters.
Veronica Lietz and Hannah Buck scored eight points apiece to lead Juneau, while Jessica Ritchie added four and Susy Hurtte scored three.
Joe Kohan scored eight points and Faifo Levale and Ryan Staton added seven apiece for the Juneau boys C team, which swept the two-game series. The Crimson Bears led by just one - 10-9 - after the first quarter, but broke away with a 19-5 run in the second period.
Roberto Medina scored eight points and Chris Stockton added six points for Klawock (0-8 overall).
