Douglas Gregory Franklin, 56, died Jan. 25, 2006, in Las Vegas.
He was born Dec. 18, 1949, in River Falls, Wis.
He lived throughout the United States and made his home in Douglas for several of his adult years. He worked at his career in the service industry while in Douglas and took part in opening the first Baskin-Robbins in Juneau. He also had a hand in developing the restaurant at the top of the tram when the tram originally opened in Juneau. In previous years he had worked as a chef in such prestigious areas as Cape Cod, Las Vegas and Southern California.
He is survived by his sons, Richie Franklin of Las Vegas and Douglas Jr. (Stephanie); granddaughter, Danica of Las Vegas; sisters, Chris Alexander of California, Rita (Peter) Crawford of Virginia, Monica (Sam) Hutson of Utah, Jackie (Russ) Shostak of Utah and Mary (Gunnar) Noreen of Douglas; and many nieces and nephews and their children.
A service will be held this week in Las Vegas, and at his request, his ashes will be spread in Douglas.
