JUNEAU - As many as 16 inches of snow were predicted to fall in the Juneau area between Saturday night and today, according to the National Weather Service.
A heavy snow warning is in effect until 6 p.m.
A low pressure system moving across the Northern Gulf is causing the heavy snowfall, according to the weather service. In addition to snow, east winds of up to 25 mph were expected.
A 70 percent chance of snow was expected Monday, with some clearing possible by the evening.
Eaglecrest Ski Area received 6 to 8 inches of new snow Saturday, after reporting 4 inches overnight. About a foot was expected today, according to General Manager Kirk Duncan.
