Word of Mouth

Juneau schoolteachers have not had a raise in well over five years. We need to be concerned about keeping a competitive edge and keeping quality teachers for our students.

On Friday, I left a book and package of photos and a doggie bag either in the restroom or a shop in the building where Canton House restaurant is located. The doggie bag is not important but the book and photos of my daughter's farewell party are. If you found it, please call 364-3163. I can identify these.

Regarding Jerry Reinwand's My Turn about Word of Mouth: Just as TVs and radios have "off" buttons, no one is forced to read Word of Mouth. It gives people an opportunity to express opinions when they do not wish to write long letters.

Congratulations to Jerry Reinwand's comments about Word of Mouth. I support his views 100 percent.

I thoroughly enjoy Word of Mouth. I hope it won't be taken out of our paper.

I think Jerry Reinwand needs to find something better to do than worry about Word of Mouth.

George W. Bush has not been in the White House long enough for anyone to say if he's "a darn good president." Him and his buddies who want to develop ANWR are all in the oil business. I've not heard one word about conservation from the Bush administration.

Most of our oil from Alaska is being shipped overseas. Bush is looking into meeting our country's energy needs by drilling ANWR. This makes no sense.

With George W. Bush's agenda on separation of church and state, I only hope they don't pick Ramona Barnes.

I am appalled at Eaglecrest opening and not having the lower lifts open. I bought a season pass to learn how to ski and I can't go up there.

I want to know why Eaglecrest opened. I went up there Friday and it was horrible, completely wet. They should wait a little longer.

I bought both of my kids a season pass this year and they've just begun to ski. I called the Eaglecrest ski report and they recommend beginners still wait. Why have they opened if they are not ready for some of the beginners they sold season passes to?

I agree that drivers should not speed around students who are walking. I also wish our young people and adults would wear lighter clothing. It's very hard to see them, especially when it is raining. "Wear white at night" is still a good slogan.

A lot of people don't like it when agencies or companies use the press to control information. There was a screaming match at Sealaska Friday with some of the Sealaska leaders and the situation there is not good and I don't like it when the newspaper gets used to make it look like something it is not.

It is not the studded tires that are rutting the road. It's the paving job plus the big trucks driving down the road every day.

To the person who thinks high schoolers catch the bus in the light. They have to be at the bus stop before 7 a.m.

The Gastineau Humane Society needs kitten chow.

To all the people commenting on the exit exam, I don't think they would pass the test. It's not because students were just seat-warmers. It's ridiculous to throw an exit exam on unprepared people.
