If the group proposing the zoo at the rock dump is sincere about solving Juneau bear problems they should instead focus their efforts on the problem of abundant and easily accessed garbage throughout town. If just a fraction of the effort and money they've indicated as necessary to open their zoo is aimed at the only real solution - containing bear-attracting garbage - the bear problem won't exist four or five years down the road when they hope to open. Let's stay on track Juneau. Don't confuse the creation of a tourist attraction with the bear issue. The problem is garbage. Let's continue to push for metal lids on Dumpsters, enforcement of the garbage ordinance, and information on how homeowners can keep bears from their garbage.
