Juneau-Douglas High School girls basketball -- The Crimson Bears host the two-time defending Class 4A state champion East Anchorage Thunderbirds for a pair of non-conference games, varsity games start at 8 p.m. at the JDHS main gym.

Roughhouse Fridays boxing -- Matches start at 7:30 p.m. at the Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall. Seats are $20 and $30, and tickets are available at ANB Hall and Marlintini's Lounge. Info: Bob Haag, Big H Promotions, 1-907-274-8575.

Juneau Tornados wrestling club registration -- The Tornados will hold registration from 6-7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, and from 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Tornados' clubhouse at 8345 Old Dairy Road, next to Oliver's Trophies. This is a youth-oriented wrestling program for ages 5-18. This is a non-profit program that is partially sponsored by the City and Borough of Juneau's sales tax. Info: Bob Mahon, 789-3477.

Juneau Alpine Club monthly meeting -- Meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the home of Kim and Barb Turley, 1136 Slim Williams Way. This is the annual meeting and election of officers. Info: Kim and Barb Turley, 789-7058.

Help send the state champion Juneau Jaguars to regionals -- The Juneau Soccer Club team for boys ages 12-13 is trying to raise money to represent Alaska at the Far West Regional Soccer Tournament that will be held in June 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The team needs to raise about $15,000 for the tournament, which is a qualifying event for the national championships. Southeast Road Runners club event change -- The date of the Sweethearts' Relay has been changed to Sunday, Feb. 17, from Feb. 10. Runners need to meet at noon at the Douglas Fire Station on Feb. 17, with the race starting at 1 p.m. The first leg of the two-person relay is two miles long and the second leg is three miles. The race starts and ends at the Douglas Fire Station. The entry fee is $5 per person for those who preregister at either location of the Juneau Racquet Club, or $8 for day-of-race registration. Juneau Tornados wrestling club garage sale -- The local youth wrestling club is hosting a garage sale on Saturday, March 2. People are encouraged to donate items for the sale and the club members will even handle the hauling. Info: Joan Harvey, 789-5401, or contact her by e-mail at secs@gci.net.

Southeast Alaska Avalanche Center workshops -- Avalanche workshops will take place in Juneau, Petersburg, Haines and Ketchikan. Level I backcountry courses are March 1-4 in Juneau and March 15-18 in Haines, with the three-day intensive Level I classes costing $295 ($220 students/low income). Courses for all snow travelers, including snowmachiners, lasting 1 1/2 days take place in Ketchikan on a date TBA. There will also be special classes in Haines on Easter weekend. Juneau 4-H Nordic Ski program -- The club skis from 1:30-3 p.m. every Sunday starting on Jan. 6. Membership is $6 to join 4-H, plus club ski rental is $20 for the season. Students renting skis are expected to attend at least 80 percent of the club ski outings. Parents are encouraged to participate, but they must provide their own skis.
