Officer Rayme Vinson was presented a Legislative Citation by Speaker of the House John Harris during Rayme's retirement ceremony on Jan. 28 at the Juneau Police Department.
Vinson served in law enforcement for more than 30 years. He began his career in 1977 as a military police officer in the Marine Corps, where he served as presidential security for President Richard Nixon.
During his career, he worked in many fields of law enforcement including deputy sheriff, investigator, jailer, firearms instructor, officer-in-charge, field training officer, bomb technician, SWAT officer, CERT officer, fireman, emergency medical technician and chief of the Valdez Department of Emergency Services.
In Alaska, in addition to working for the Juneau Police Department, Vinson served with the Valdez Police Department, the North Slope Borough Department of Public Safety and as a lieutenant in the Alaska Army National Guard.
The Legislative Citation he received reads in part:
"The 24th Alaska State Legislature congratulates Patrolman Rayme L. Vinson on his retirement after 27 years of protecting the public throughout Alaska. ...
"Rayme Vinson has shown dedication, compassion and courage throughout his years of service to all Alaskans. He has been a tremendous example of a truly excellent public servant."
The citation was co-sponsored by Rep. Beth Kerttula, D-Juneau, and Speaker of the House Harris.
