Mayor of Houston extends his leave

ANCHORAGE - The mayor of the Mat-Su town of Houston said he is extending a personal leave.

Mayor Steve Frost, who has been on leave since Dec. 31, said he plans to resume his mayoral duties by March 13, when a City Council meeting is scheduled.

Frost made his announcement to the City Council by e-mail Wednesday evening.

Deputy mayor Sandy McDonald continues as acting mayor.

If Frost doesn't attend the March 13 meeting, he forfeits his council seat.

No members of the governing body may miss three consecutive regular meetings without being excused, under city law.

A vote to excuse Frost's absence failed in a tie at a City Council meeting in January.
