House members form 'Liberty Caucus'

Posted: Thursday, February 04, 2010

JUNEAU - Ten Alaska House members have formed a group they say is aimed at promoting conservative causes. They call it the Liberty Caucus.

Rep. Mike Kelly says some of the largest meetings he's seen back home in Fairbanks have included constituents who worry the government is overreaching and infringing on states' rights and personal liberties. He says the idea behind the caucus is to show them there are like-minded representatives in the state Legislature.

All 10 members are Republicans. Kelly is the acting spokesman. He says the caucus wants to focus on such things as fiscal discipline, family values and the free-enterprise system.
