JUNEAU — The public is invited to a talk tonight beginning at 6:30 p.m., and again at 8 p.m., titled “Princess Kathleen On the Rocks: Wreck and Recovery” as part of the Friday Fireside Chats at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center.
During 2010 agencies and contractors removed old fuel oil from the shipwrecked luxury liner Princess Kathleen that struck Point Lena in 1952 and sank. Sarah Moore, with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, explains the ship’s history and how present day workers cleaned up the oil.
The event will be shown in the auditorium at the center and is free and open to the public.
