Boy Scouts to hold charity auction

The Boy Scouts of America in Juneau will hold a scouting charity auction at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, at the Juneau Yacht Club.

Auction items will include Alaska Airlines tickets from Juneau to Los Angeles or Phoenix, a seven-day Mexico cruise with Princess Cruises, dinner with Governor Murkowski, art, siteseeing tours, sporting goods and dinner parties, among other prizes.

Sons of Norway to host first Nordic Fest

Sons of Norway's Svalbard Lodge is hosting its first Nordic Fest Feb. 8. This taste of Scandinavia will take place at the Juneau yacht Club from 9 to 3 p.m. The public is invited to come enjoy fresh Danish pastries flown in from Larsen Brothers Bakery, as well as traditional open-faced sandwiches.

There will be samples of Norwegian art and culture on display and Dale Wygant will provide accordion music. Doug Quammen, a visiting guest artist from Washington state, will be teaching a Nordic Card Weaving workshop at the Yacht Club from 9 to 1 p.m. To register please call 790-3639.

Coast Guard Women's Association taking grant applications

The Coast Guard Women's Association is accepting applications from local nonprofit organizations in need of grants. Interested parties should contact Kim McCray at 789-8077 or e-mail mccray5@gci.net for an application. All applications must be returned via United States Postal Service to CGWA of Juneau, PO Box 35121, Juneau, AK 99803 and postmarked by March 16, 2003.

To ensure fairness in meeting the application deadline, no hand deliveries will be accepted.
