Dorothy Sturrock

Lifelong Juneau resident Dorothy Sturrock died Jan. 29, 2008, with family by her side. She was 87.

She was born Aug. 8, 1920, at St. Ann's Hospital to Bert and Mabel Bertholl. She graduated from Juneau High School in 1939 and was the Fourth of July Miss Juneau that year.

On Sept. 2, 1939, she married Harry "Hub" Sturrock. They were married for 68 years. She worked as an operator for the Juneau-Douglas Telephone Co. during World War II and then raised her family in their home on Starr Hill. Her family was her life. She and her husband were one of the partners in Foodland Supermarket from 1970 to 1984.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth Petzoldt; and brothers, Bert and Phil Bertholl.

She is survived by her husband; daughter, Sue Judson and her husband, Alan; sons, Sandy Sturrock and his wife, Jeannie, Jim Sturrock and his wife, Kathy, Mike Sturrock and his wife, Kelly, and Gary Sturrock and his wife, Margy; and 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
