FAIRBANKS - A young musher with a famous name has captured the Junior Yukon Quest sled dog race.
Seventeen-year-old Ava Lindner, the daughter of Sonny Lindner, on Sunday won the 145-mile race that starts and ends in Fairbanks.
Sonny Lindner was the first Yukon Quest champ and is a perennial contender in the Iditarod. His daughter is a junior at Lathrop High School. She was the only musher among five finishers who didn't drop a dog at a checkpoint.
Her total trail time was 11 hours, 23 minutes. That was just 5 minutes ahead of Wade Marrs of Wasilla.
Temperatures were between 20 and 30 below along portions of the trail Sunday.
