Man robs bank just outside Fairbanks

Posted: Tuesday, February 05, 2008

FAIRBANKS - The FBI has taken over an investigation of the robbery of a bank just west of the Fairbanks city limits.

State Trooper Sergeant Chad Goeden says a man at about 1:20 p.m. Saturday entered a branch of Denali State Bank on Chena Pump Road and demanded money.

Goeden says the man did not display a weapon but may have had one.

The robber carried a bag and ordered a teller to fill it with cash, then fled on foot. The man was wearing a blue hooded sweat shirt and a black mask. Goeden says he appeared to be in his mid-20s.

Police tracked the suspect's footprints in snow. The trail led west from the bank into a residential neighborhood.
