WASILLA - Alaska State Troopers fatally shot a woman whom they said was wielding a handgun.
Troopers said 38-year-old Debra L. Torrey was shot after refusing to drop her firearm Tuesday evening.
Authorities said they took a call reporting that a woman fired a handgun inside a medical facility.
The caller then said the same woman was outside the center and trying to re-enter while still holding the handgun.
Troopers said they directed her to drop the gun, but she repeatedly refused to comply while making threatening statements and motions.
Two troopers fired their weapons. The woman died at the scene. No one else as injured.
Department policy requires the troopers involved in a shooting be placed on administrative leave.
Once they return, the department will release their names.
