Word Of Mouth

Posted: Tuesday, February 06, 2001

Word of Mouth gives readers a forum to express opinions on a variety of issues by telephone. Calls must be limited to one minute and we reserve the right to edit calls for clarity, length and libel.

Calls will remain anonymous, and opinions will be published if they meet the editor's standards of good taste. The number to call is 586-4636. Then press 8255 to leave your message.

(As you've probably figured out, messages printed here don't necessarily reflect the opinion of the Empire.)

How wonderful that the little tree is decorated again. I was thinking how nice it would be if it were decorated for Valentine's Day - and Saturday I saw it covered with little red hearts. It brightens up my day and I'm sure the people who are doing it are having a great time. I hope they keep it up for all the holidays.

You told the Green's Creek guy to look for the price of gold Monday through Friday but the gold and silver prices were not in the paper Monday.

Apologies for Monday's omission. The gold and silver prices nevertheless have been and will continue to be a regular feature of page 7. On Monday, gold closed at $265.20, down from $267.10. Silver closed at $4.678, down from $4.768. - Editor

Cars and buses never stop at the Seward and Front streets stop sign.

How much satisfaction can you get from competing in the Cub Scout Sandbox Pinewood Derby if your car was made by an adult? Parents, let's all make sure our kids make the cars.

I sure hope the helicopter flights aren't going to fly over Tee Harbor to get to the Herbert Glacier. Please fly way out over the water.

Why can't we have a rate for one garbage can for smaller households and for people who like to recycle?

The ice rink is an excellent idea. The location is terrible. Put it in a more central location.

Sealaska should search outside the company for a new CEO. Sealaska has had too many business failures since 1971. Shareholders should demand a national search for a CEO.

Bob Loescher is not the only one who should have resigned from Sealaska. Board members who have been serving since day one should resign. There are other shareholders with new ideas that we, the shareholders, can vote for.

People should just stop complaining about the way Eaglecrest opened because they were very up front that there was very limited snow cover on the bottom. As far as everyone else is concerned, as long as you have the technical capabilities to go skiing and snowboarding up there it was a great day.

Thanks Eaglecrest. I was up there Monday. What a spirit-lifter. Conditions were great on top but got marginal near the lower elevation.

I think it is terrible Eaglecrest is open with so little snow. Beginners cannot use the hill and if they own season passes they just lose.

To the writer of Monday's My Turn, the Seattle Times has exactly the same kind of column as Word of Mouth.

I love Word of Mouth. My complaint is those tacky signs that some companies are starting to put up on the corners of people's roads. I live on the corner of my road and I have one sign on each side and one's been up for about three months and I'm sick of it.

Jerry Reinwand should not try to control what people read or what they think. That's what the government tries to do in China.

I think it is very interesting who is afraid of Word of Mouth. I wonder what they don't want us to hear and what opinions they don't want expressed or what they are afraid we will find out.
