Reading for international 'Lysistrata' project

Posted: Thursday, February 06, 2003

JUNEAU - A reading of "Lysistrata," an ancient Greek play, will be March 3 as part of The Lysistrata Project, an international theater artists' protest against possible war with Iraq.

The Lysistrata Project includes theater artists from New York to San Francisco to Munich, Germany, who will read the play as a protest against such a war.

"Lysistrata" is a comedy by Greek dramatist Aristophanes that tells the story of a group of women from opposing states who unite to end the Peloponnesian War by withholding sex from their mates. Desperate for intimacy, the men finally agree to lay down their swords and see their way to achieving diplomatic peace.

Interested members of the community are invited to attend the first rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in the KTOO conference room, 360 Egan Drive. For information, call Mike at 789-2096.
