Juneau resident Michael R. Allen died peacefully Feb. 2, 2008, at home in Juneau, with family at his side. He was 62.
He was born in 1945, in Florida and grew up in upper Michigan before venturing west to Colorado, California, Hawaii, Oregon and finally to Alaska.
In 1990, he and his family came to Juneau as the general manager of the Breakwater Inn, where he worked for many years. In most recent years, he worked at Bartlett Regional Hospital as the director of food services.
In his leisure time, he loved boating and fishing, the arts and reading. He especially loved playing guitar and listening to good music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ellen Allen of Petoskey, Mich.
He is survived by his wife and friend, Terri Allen, of Juneau; daughter, Rebecca Allen and her partner, Elliot Rawitch, of California; son, Isaac Allen and his wife, Angela, of Ohio; twin daughters, Cayleigh and Courtney-Ashton Allen, of Juneau; sister, Barbara Allen, of Florida; brother, Rick Allen and his wife, Molly, of Pennsylvania; granddaughters, Ella and Maya Rawitch, of California; and a number of extended family members located in Australia, Texas, Arizona, California and the Atlantic coast.
No services will be held as per his wishes. He was cremated and his ashes will be scattered over a favorite fishing spot in the spring.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, any persons wishing to make a donation in his name could direct it to Hospice and Home Care of Juneau or another deserving charity of their choice. Remembrances can be mailed to the family at P.O. Box 240084, Douglas, AK 99824.
