JUNEAU - Arts for Kids is hosting the fifth annual Community Art Celebration form 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Thunder Mountain High School.
Art projects will include raven puppets, masks, refrigerator magnets, glass mosaics, leather tooling items, Alaska action figure dolls, paper beading, potato stamp cards, decorative garlands, encaustic painting, charcoal life sketches, art trading cards and Ravenstail weaving. Three potter wheels will be spinning throughout the event, with the assistance of potters, James and Matt Voelcker and Hillary Buck.
The afternoon will also include art demonstrations by paper and collage artist Sherri McDonald; wood carver Dan Branch; jewelery solderer Anji Gallanos; wire basket weaver Jenna O'Fontenella; and visual artist Arnie Weimer, who will be creating cubist character studies of event participants.
Arts for Kids is dedicated to supporting and sustaining high quality arts education in our public schools and this is the first year that we have art projects hosted by teachers and students from all levels of education, preschool through university.
