KENAI - Kenai Peninsula College's Kenai River Campus in Soldotna is requesting proposals from artists interested in creating work to be placed in its newest addition. The Request for Proposal deadline is 5 p.m. March 13. Finalists will be selected by March 23 and the installation will be complete by Aug. 17. $30,000 has been budgeted for covering all costs of purchasing and installing the artwork.

Areas in the Riverview Commons that artwork may be chosen for include, but are not limited to: a 6-foot-by-9-foot vertical wall; four large upper-level glass panels, approximately 44 inches by 37.5 inches each; and six upper-level glass panels, approximately 20 inches by 44.5 inches each, running approximately 29 feet.

The committee is open to the artist choosing another location in the Riverview Commons for artwork and encourages artists to visit the campus commons. For artists who cannot visit the campus, the Request for Proposals and photos of the areas will be posted online at

There are no guidelines for the material, approach or form involved in the artwork. Artwork can, but is not required to, respond to the Campus's unique geographic location, natural environment, the Kenai River and cultural heritage. Selection criteria will include: quality, appropriateness and originality of the artist's concepts; durability, maintenance requirements and safety considerations; and quality of the artist's past work.

Each proposal must include a conceptual sketch including notes, up to 10 slides of past work, a current resume and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Proposals can be submitted to Phillip Miller, Kenai Peninsula College, Facilities & Maintenance, 156 College Road, Soldotna, Alaska 99669. Miller can be reached at 907-262-0325, if artists have questions.
