The Juneau Empire welcomes two additions to its sales team. Nathan Parmelee and John Lesh have come aboard as multimedia sales consultants.
Parmelee is a familiar face to the Empire, working eight years here in advertising sales and ultimately as Sales Manager. He won the Morris Publishing Group’s President’s Club Award for three consecutive years in 2005-2007. This award is reserved for the top salesman in the entire company and is awarded in Augusta, Ga.
He went to work in the financial services industry in 2007, doing mortgage loan origination and also spent a year as a financial advisor.
“I ultimately chose to come back to the paper because of my love of marketing and advertising in print and online medium, and because of how much I missed this workflow dynamic and interacting with the business community in Juneau,” he said.
Empire Controller Stephanie Perry remembers Parmelee’s sales work, saying, “Those of us that worked with Nathan before know that he’ll be a huge asset to the paper.”
Lesh brings a high amount of business experience and education to the job, not to mention a homecoming of his own.
He studied business management at the University of Montana, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Science. For three years at college, he also did sales as a client representative for the national Bennett Law Office.
After college, he worked in Seattle as an investment services associate for the bank IGN Direct, assisting investors with online brokerage accounts.
Lesh grew up in Juneau and jumped when the opportunity to continue his career here became available.
“I just missed it. Juneau’s always been home to me. After experiencing it down south, I decided to make it home once again,” he said. “I always liked the Empire and I’ve always been interested in getting into advertising marketing, so when this job came up at the paper, it seemed like the perfect fit.”
