Program aims to pair foster youth with mentors

JUNEAU — A new program aims to pair foster youth with mentors.

Rep. Les Gara says the state has approved grant funding to Big Brothers Big Sisters, Covenant House and Facing Foster Care to implement the mentorship program.

The Legislature approved funding for the effort last year, and the state awarded the funds this past week.

Gara’s office says the effort is aimed at helping foster youth build support relationships with adults that last behind their time in the foster care program.

The program is part of the foster care-related initiatives passed during the last legislative session.
