A Juneau couple returned home Saturday night to find smoke pouring from their home.
Max Mielke, volunteer district chief for Glacier Fire District, said a call came in at 10:17 p.m. Saturday night reporting a fire at a home at Kodzoff Acres Mobile Home Park.
Upon arrival, firefighters entered the trailer and quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained by the bathroom and adjacent hallway, Mielke said.
``There was smoke and heat damage to the structure,'' he said. ``We have an ongoing investigation as to the cause.''
He estimated the damage at $25,000 to $30,000. He said carpets and clothing would need to be replaced because of smoke damage.
``They're a young married couple, without home owner's insurance, and this is pretty devastating,'' Mielke said.
The couple, Dusty Weich and Cheriess Weich, were not home when the fire broke out. Mielke said they left their home about 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening. When they returned shortly after 10 p.m. they discovered the smoke and called the fire department.
Weich is employed by Superior Builders in Juneau. The company hopes to get a work party together to do some repairs on the couple's home, said owner Kelly Stephens.
``I plan on helping them out the best I can,'' Stephens said. ``We could use all the help for this couple, as much as anybody can put together, donated materials or labor even.''
They're also trying to gather clothing for Cheriess, said Darlene Stephens of Superior Builders.
``She's working and doesn't have anything now, until she gets that stuff in to cleaners and sees what can be salvaged,'' Stephens said.
